NaNoWriMo 2022 Week 1 Check-In

Hey folks, who’s doing NaNoWriMo this year?

I used to participate in the YWP (I was NevilleFan if any of you remember me), but kind of fell off of participating once I got to college. I decided to participate this year when my friend Lexi over at DeomesWriting told me she was doing it – I hadn’t had a friend also participating in NaNoWriMo since I was 15, so this was a huge motivator for me. I said “sure, I have this idea I want to work on, so why not?” Let me tell you why not:

1465 / 50000 words. 3% done!

This is one week of NaNoWriMo work, haha. It’s Saturday here and my weekend off, so after I finish this blog post I’m going to go back to trying to ramp that word count up. Over the summer, I wrote a 70k+ Stranger Things fanfic in a couple weeks so I know I am fully capable of it, but I have an annoying perfectionism when it comes to my original works. I’m hopeful I may actually finish at least the first 50k words of this novel in November, or at the very least going to try my hardest.

Speaking of Stranger Things, it was actually an inspiration for the novel I am working on. I grew up in a small town (in Illinois rather than Indiana, but we’re neighbors so still fairly similar to Hawkins) so the concept of small towns being overturned by monsters and the supernatural is incredibly fascinating to me. I also love the podcast Welcome to Night Vale. So, while I don’t want to give too much away about my work in progress, you can definitely think of it as something within the vein of those two properties.

That’s all from me for now, I’ll try to check in every week (maybe every 5 days since it is a 30 day event?) with my progress and to see how everyone else is doing. Good luck if you are writing this month.
